So we Brexited...

Dear diary,
Brexit's been in my mind once again.
It's Friday afternoon.
Muneca and busy Mummy are in the kitchen. Muneca is having a cup of tea while busy Mummy is making sandwiches for afternoon snack. Munequita enters kitchen, hungry as she sniffs for food.
Munequita

Munequita
We're not part of Europe anymore.
Busy Mummy
Is it today?
Muneca
Can't believe it's happening officially later tonight. Around eleven.
Munequita
Was it 2016 you and Dad went to the polls?
Busy Mummy
It was.
Muneca
It was on the 23rd of June. Remember.
Busy Mummy
Can't believe it went quick.
Muneca
It is disappointing.
Munequita
Mummy's vote didn't make a difference.
Muneca
I honestly thought, we were going to win. What a load of bollocks.
Busy Mummy

Busy Mummy
Can't believe how controversial brexit has become. The majority voted to leave, not fully understanding what it meant to be part of Europe.
Muneca
It created so much division amongst families and friends.
Busy Mummy
Sounds silly what I'm about to say. But why vote Brexit just because you're fed up with immigration. Feels like it's the main reason it happened that way.
Muneca
Exactly. It's like your friends Rose and husband Bob. Both voted to leave because "immigrants are stealing our jobs"
Busy Mummy
Nonsense. Can't say that, when you've never worked. What future will the young ones have? This is why I voted remain.
Muneca

Muneca
Thanks Mum. Can't be bothered with it anymore. All this thing, going to Trafalgar Square was just a waste of space. What's done is done. There's no going back. End of story.
Busy Mummy
Europe is strong together and has made a massive difference in my opinion. It brought prosperity to us all. We'll see how it goes in a few years time without Europe. 100% I know everything will go up, specially food. Who knows what else... Anyway, I'm off to Aldi to buy a few things before it's too late.
Muneca
Aldi? There you go. Another European shop taking over England. Can't go wrong when it comes to their knock out prices.
Tim's sitting on the stairs waiting for food. He is listening to our rather deep conversation about Brexit.
Tim

Tim
Mummy likes it because food is soooo cheap.
Busy Mummy
What is the name of that other shop? The one with all those cheap quirky things?
Tim
Do you mean Lidl?
Munequita
Not food, you idiot-
Tim
Mummy Munequita called me idiot.
Busy Mummy
Need to apologise.
Munequita
Didn't mean to-
Tim
Say sorry-
Munequita
Okay- okay. Sorry.

Slight pause
Muneca
Think I know which one. Is it the flying tiger?
Busy Mummy
Yep, that's the one.
Muneca
Ikea is another one when it comes to counting pennies.
Tim
I love Tiger-
Munequita
Me too.
Tim
Can we go again?
Busy Mummy
Course. How about Aldi later?
Tim
Don't want to.
Busy Mummy
What about you Munequita?
Munequita
Nope
Busy Mummy
Is that your answer. Okay... In that case I'll quickly nip to do some shopping.
Tim
Mummy when can we go to Holland again?
Busy Mummy
Good question. We'll just have to see how it goes now we're not part of Europe anymore.
So last Friday we parted from Europe. Not sure what new developments they'll be when it comes to travelling in the near future.
At the moment,  I'm trying to remember how it was for me, back in the day when Britain was independent. I was brought up in the North of England at the time so most of my life then, my  Mum who was from the UK. brought me up to live a very simple life. She didn't believe in expensive holidays in Europe and beyond. She believed the best holidays for us was to stay put and explore anywhere in the UK. All my school friends couldn't understand why I never went on holidays abroad specially during the summer holidays. While my friends had amazing holidays in Europe and beyond, my holidays were just closer to home, camping in Wales or staying a week in the Yorkshire Dales or going for the day to Blackpool or Scarborough beach. For me it was just a very different experience at the time. Mother always use to say to us that holidays in Europe was luxury as there was so much to consider like expensive passports and visas. I look back and think maybe the way I was brought up did inspire me later specially when I became a Mother.  I thought of the idea of giving an opportunity to my own children to explore beyond the UK.  I was surprised how easy it was booking a holiday with search engines making it all possible to find cheap flights and accommodation, even applying and renewing our passports with no need of a visa was incredibly easy. Although technology plays a huge part in the world of travel I am kind of curious how this will affect us all, now we're out of Europe. Is it going to be more expensive to travel to Europe? What other changes will there be? Feel free to comment in regards to this post...
